Is Going to the Concert Worth It?

An artist you’ve listened to for a while is coming into town for a concert. Your friend absolutely loves this person and insists that the two of you should go.

You don’t really have any plans the day of the performance so you agree. You buy tickets for the upcoming concert and the two of you plan out the day, from transportation and wardrobe to food and beverages everything has been taken care of.

Finally, the big day comes and you line up in a line that stretches as far as the eye can see and in front of you is a couple with matching t-shirts loudly professing their love and admiration for the artist and behind you is a man that you think may be slightly too old to be here. Once you get inside, the artist performs around an hour of their greatest hits while fans drink and loudly sing along word for word.

One last song is performed and everyone takes out their cell phones to wave the lights back and forth as a slow yet thought provoking song is harmoniously sung. By the time you’ve walked out of the stadium you’ve already promised yourself that this will be the last concert that you will ever attend but before you can say so to your friend, they excitedly declare that you have to do this again.

Baffled you try to think back to what could’ve transpired to make them say something so absurd. Nothing comes to mind so you ask. They explain that the anticipation that was built up on that long train ride was worth it. They say that the couple with the matching t-shirts were incredibly funny and were pretty cool to share the website that sell the merchandise at a reasonable price.

Then they practically yell that the artist literally played all their favorite songs and that it was amazing to share that moment with people just as passionate about it as them. Through this lengthy explanation the truth slowly dawns on you. For those that enjoy it, music has always been a way of connecting and expressing oneself. It gives an artist a channel to tell a story and has the ability to incite feelings that may be more difficult to do through other mediums.

For many, concerts are an extension of that. It’s an opportunity to experience an artist personally share their talent with fans. For some, listening to the song through earphones or speakers will never be enough. So then you ask yourself, are going to concerts worth the money and the effort? The answer is, it’s simply a personal preference.
