Most Grammy Award-Winning Individuals of All Time

For the first time, the Grammy Award ceremony took place in 1959. Certainly, everything was much different than now: the ceremony was attended by only 500 guests, and awards were presented in 12 nominations. The best song was "Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu", written by Italian musicians Domenico Modugno and Franco Migliacci. This same work won the previous year at the Eurovision song contest and remained the only non-American song that won the "Best Grammy Award" nomination.

For more than half a century of history, many outstanding musicians have received awards. However, among them are those whom members were called the best regularly by the American Academy of Sound Recording.

Georg Solti. Awards: 31

The name of the famous English maestro is included in the Guinness World Records for the number of Grammy Awards and the number of nominations (79). In addition, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the musical director of which for a long time was Georg Solti, generally received 60 music awards.

Alison Krauss. Awards: 28

The American violinist and country song singer Alison Krauss is not popular all over the world. But she has the greatest number of Grammy awards among the singers. To gain an impressive number of awards Jones helped his musical universality. In the list of his achievements - "Grammy" in such categories as "Best Instrumental Arrangement", "Best Vocal R & B Performance" and "Best Non-Musical Album".

Pierre Boulez. Awards: 25

Another non-American in the list of Grammy awards holders is the French composer and maestro Pierre Boulez. During his career, he managed to become the head of the orchestras of New York, Cleveland, and even the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Vladimir Horowitz. Awards: 25

One of the greatest pianists has a Russian origin - it's Vladimir Horowitz, he moved to Germany from Russia at the age of 22, and soon became famous. Glory to him won the performance of the first concert of Tchaikovsky music.

U2. Awards: 22

The composer regularly took the Grammy Awards related to the cinema. However, John Williams has in his "piggy bank" another 5 "Oscars" and 47 nominations (only Walt Disney has more). It is worth noting that John Williams is the author of music for the Oscar-winning movies "Jaws", "Star Wars. Episode IV. New Hope', 'Alien', 'Schindler's List' and 'Fiddler on the Roof'.

Aretha Franklin. Awards: 20

The queen of soul - Arletta Franklin received the first Grammy award in 1968 at the age of 25. After returning popularity to this musical genre in 2007, the singer recorded the album together with Maraia Kerry, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston and others.

Bruce Springsteen. Awards: 20

The famous American rock musician gathered an impressive list of Grammy awards in the 90s and 2000s, and in 1994 he also received an Oscar for the nomination "Best Song".

Finally, it can't be omitted some personalities in the history of Grammy awards.

Michael Jackson is an American singer who won the most awards at one ceremony (eight at one evening). It happened in 1983. The same number of awards was taken by Carlos Santana in 1999.

It's interesting, that Lianne Reims became the youngest performer to win the Grammy Award. She was 14 years old when she received her first two awards in 1997. Talking about modern musicians, a large number of Grammys were received by rapper Kanni West (21 awards), Beyonce (22) and Sting (16 awards), Foo Fighters (11 awards), Metallica and Santana (8 awards). Also worth noting such Grammy holders as Taylor Swift (20), Lord (17), Christina Aguilera (19) and Rihanna (19).
