Jesus Lizard has kept silence for almost eight years without concerts, but for their true fans now is a good opportunity to recall the past
After the breakup in 2009, nearly 60-years-old members of The Jesus Lizard performed separately, Duane Denison in the Tomahawk band and David Yow worked under his Thought You Look Like a Spide album. But now the time comes right for The Jesus Lizard tour.
Last time the noise-rock stars performed on stage back in 2009, but they collapsed officially much earlier namely in 1999. The last album of the band ('Bang') dates back to 2000.
An important point is that the group took the name from one of the basilisk names, a kind of lizard that is capable of running on the water. Failing to gain great commercial success, The Jesus Lizard was labeled as the leading noise rock band among the American independent underground, which recorded a series of albums filled with evil and destructive guitar noise. Nirvana members (who recorded the joint single "Puss / Oh, the Guilt" in 1992), Helmet, Every Time I Die, Brand New and other bands recognize The Jesus Lizard as one of the main groups that have a strong impact on their sound.
Their music can be described as a mixture of high-pitched guitar, machine-like drums, energetic bass guitar, and psychotic vocals somehow remindful of The Birthday Party sound. The unique insane, and sometimes incoherent, vocals of David Yow are not similar to what was before or after him. Rock critics often call The Jesus Lizard "the most brutal band on the planet", and it is absolutely true. If you adore this style - you are obliged to visit such an event.
After all, The Jesus Lizard will visit 6 cities and Nashville, TN is the first on the list on December 8, followed by Chicago's 9th at Surgery, New York 10, Los Angeles on December 14, San Francisco on December 15, and the last stop will be Houston for two days on December 16-17 at the Day For Night Festival.
