This group is worthy the name of folk-rock veterans, their career covers 45 years, but look how young they are. During their musical activity, the band became the musical face of Scotland, and this is due to describing in songs the unique culture of this country and glorifying the Scottish inner rich spirit. The Runrig played thousands of concerts in Europe and the United States and now they decided to give the last concert.
The history of the band dates back to 1973 on the island of Skye. It was not surprising, that very quickly the band gained wide popularity and in the early 90's held the first positions on charts with the composition of Gaelic song. Later, in 1995, they rose again in the ratings and this time with another composition An Ubhal as Airde in 18th place. However, unfortunately, the group has announced their decision to stop all activities, explaining this by the fact that they need rest. On the other hand, Runrig band does not exclude the possibility of working on future projects, which means that the group itself may still appear before the eyes of the fans. As for the details of the farewell concert, it will be held on August 18, 2018. The location of the latest event will be Stirling's City Park. The band promises an enormously great show and calls it the most impressive for all their times.
What else it is needed to say, look only the Runrig's farewell tour title, which itself dramatically speaks for itself - The Last Dance. This seems to be like a giving the opportunity for last time to touch the live sound of Scottish legends and go into the whirlpool dancing finally.
We remind you that in 2016 the band released its last album called The Story. On this special occasion, Runrig will stop their activities and will no longer release new songs.
The group currently consists of songwriters Rory and Calum Macdonald, the guitarist Jones and Iain Bayne – the drummer. Nova Scotian Bruce Guthro – the current lead vocalist joined in 1998 followed by Brian Hurren the keyboard player.
Musicians point out that the ending of creative activity had to happen sometime and now it is the best time to give a farewell gig and delight the fans for the last time, expressing their gratitude for supporting them throughout not a small period of time, almost half a century, namely 45 years.
As a matter of fact, such were the comments of Runrig’s musicians regarding the latest news:
The songwriters Calum Macdonald commented this in this way: "This has been an enormous and difficult decision for us. But through the machinations of longevity and circumstance, we feel that the timing is now right for a positive and celebratory conclusion."
The drummer Iain Bayne added: "We want to make this a true celebration of the band's career, and the special bond we have with so many people from around the world, although it will be with heavy hearts when we strike the last note."
Malcolm Jones expressed his feeling: "Although the band as we know it will end, its iconic music will live on, as will the Runrig brand. Individual members will continue to write songs, record and engage in live performances, whilst there are various exciting Runrig legacy projects in development."
