When Facebook first started it completely changed the world of communication.
All of a sudden you could easily chase down that girl you had a crush on in senior year that you were too afraid to ask to dance at prom. Or, suddenly you get messages from long lost aunts and uncles all sprouting the same story about how they knew you when you were a baby.
Social media was pushed to the forefront of society and they loved every minute of it. Probably the largest phenomenon that came out of social media was how easy it was to connect with the people like celebrities that once upon a time seemed light years away. The interaction between a fan and a celebrity has never been so prominent which is why we’re looking at the top ten list of singers with the widest Facebook following.
First on the list is Shakira and her famous truthful hips. She currently has over 100 million followers. A look at her page shows why. She has a mix of music videos and personal messages always expressing her love and thank for the support of her fans. Second is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese soccer player is the captain for his national team and plays for the power house Real Madrid. He has just around a 100,000 more followers than our third place on the list, Eminem. The Detroit based rapper has had a cult like following from his early 2000 slim shady days and it seems that Facebook has only helped. His 92 million followers can mostly find advertisements of merchandise on his page. In the number four spot is the pop sensation Rihanna with over 89 million fans. It is a bit of a surprise that she isn’t higher up on the list but the beautiful singer is undeniably loved by each and every one of her followers. Rounding out the top five is the brave and family first leading actor in the Fast & Furious movie franchise Vin Diesel. He might have the most open and personal page on this list. He was very expressive about his feelings on the death of his beloved friend Paul Walker and has even posted love songs to his girlfriend on his page.
In sixth place is the late Michael Jackson. Although he has passed his endearing fans still show their support. He has around 77 million followers. The king of Pop’s page is being run by his estate and his record label Sony Music Entertainment. In seventh is Katy Perry, her page is mostly about her efforts towards UNICEF and her work with Cover Girl. In eighth place is Justin Bieber coming just short of 72 million fans. In ninth is Lady Gaga but things might change as her fantastic performance at this year’s super bowl is sure to turn some heads and last but not least is Linkin Park with just over 64 million fans.
